Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park it`s the only national park in Zanzibar Island with the size of 50 square kilometer, It was established as a conservation area in 1960s. Jozani forest is located in the central east regional of Zanzibar Island, it is a narrow neck of island between Chwaka Bay in the north and Uzi Bay to the south, which contains about 100 tree species.
When you visit this park by following the park`s network of nature trails you will find some amazing sky high trees, mangroves areas and also you should keep an eye for some of the forest’s residents such as red colobus monkey, bush pigs, blue monkey, tree hyraxes and Aders’s duiker, as well as more than 50 different species of butterflies and 40 species of birds like a species of Fischer’s turaco with unusual color wings. The forest is also rumored to be home to the elusive leopard, although it’s been several decades since there have been any official sightings.
Its normal to find two groups of habituated red colobus monkeys, which are no longer disturbed by the presence of humans, as a result they keep doing their daily activities with the little notice of the humans staring up from below, hence it’s a good place for photographs.
